        TO THE INDIANA ROOM</B></FONT><BR><BR>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns" SIZE="+1" COLOR="#BD5218">WHAT IS THE INDIANA
          ROOM?</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns">The Indiana Room is located on the second floor
          of the Danville Public Library. It was established for the
          conservation and circulation of historical and genealogical material.</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns" SIZE="+1" COLOR="#BD5218">WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN
          THE INDIANA ROOM?</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns">The collection includes historic material on
          Indiana, Hendricks County, Danville, Central Normal College, and
          Canterbury College. The genealogy collection includes photos, family
          group sheets, bound family histories, periodicals, microfilm,
          microfiche, CD-ROM reference, and reference books in the areas of
          researching and writing family histories.</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns" COLOR="#BD5218" SIZE="+1">RESEARCH HELP
          AVAILABLE</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns">Local history walking tours and genealogy
          sessions are available by appointment for Scouts working on local
          history badges.</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns">Classes in beginning genealogy and the writing
          of family histories can be arranged for small groups by appointment.</FONT></P>
        <P><FONT FACE="Berns">Specific research questions can be submitted by
          writing to the Indiana Room. There is a 15 cent charge for the cost of
          each page copied and the cost of return postage.</FONT></P>

<P>Staff perform limited research using available indexes for individuals unable to visit the Danville Public Library.  A brochure listing those resources will be sent upon request.</P>
<P>Requests are answered in the order they are received, regardless of their means of transmission, except for official requests from state and local government.  A reference request form is available for your convenience.  The staff will not search the newspapers for articles when an exact date is not specified.  If you can provide a exact date of death, an obituary will be looked up. </P>
<P>&#9;<B><FONT FACE="Berns" SIZE=4>By Letter</P>
</B></FONT>
<P>The staff receives several letters each week, and tries to answer each of them in a timely manner.  Some requests are more difficult than others and, therefore, take longer to answer.  Written requests should be as exact as possible. <B>Requests should include a non-refundable</B> <B>$5.00 per each surname inquiry</B>.  This entitles the requester up to 5 pages of photocopies with additional photocopies charged at the rate of fifteen cents per page.  <B>Our address is:</P>

<P>The primary responsibility of the staff is to supervise the use of library materials and to provide assistance to those researchers who have traveled to use the material in the Indiana Room of the Danville Public Library.  Requests by phone should be limited to general reference questions or to questions that would help familiarize you with the holdings of the Indiana Room.
